Achievements of DWRF

Development, Welfare and Research Foundation was established in June 1999 and on 1 October of the same year we launched the movement for ‘Celebration of Life’ with participation and support of Amjad Ali Khan, the sarod maestro, Geeta Chandran, the Bharat Natyam exponent, the Director and staff of United Nations Information Centre, staff members of UNICEF, UNDP, FAO, WHO, HelpAge India, Rotary International and its Delhi District Governor, members of Rotary clubs, Resident Welfare Associations, students from colleges and schools and media representatives. Since then we have moved ahead with bringing attention to various issues relevant to different categories of people from different walks of life. Adopting a participatory action oriented approach we have focused on concerns of women, adolescents and the aged with problems of social adjustments, health and security. In our small way as an empowering strategy we have taken steps to bring awareness about legal entitlements of people and how to deal with day to day crisis, for instance managing water problems, security issues and coping with health problems with focus on self-care and home remedies.

We are making special efforts to prevent elder abuse in society and support care-givers in difficult situations, irrespective of age and sex, for instance in case of Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia, HIV/AIDS affected or due to disability and terminal illness. In all our endeavors we have been fortunate to get the cooperation and voluntary guidance of professionals from the legal, medical and economic field. We have organized talks, lectures, interactive sessions and panel discussions in residential colonies, India International Centre, India Habitat Centre, clubs and colleges. We have undertaken research, disseminated information, counseled and made ourselves available for help to those whose voices are not heard or ignored.
